Women art makers have documented their experiences, their world view, their inner lives, and the lives of others despite barriers to arts education and institutional support and horrific levels of sexual harassment. Creating transcendent monuments, poems, concert experiences, and myriad expressions of life despite these obstacles (and sometimes driven by them), we are intrigued the women who risked committing to the artists' life. 

The films are organized by the decade the film begins in (as opposed to the decade the film was made) starting in the 1900s until present day. Some films span multiple decades, and we will upgrade these time designations as the website evolves.
