Women have had to earn money to support themselves and their families for generations upon generations, despite the myth of the one-income male head of household “family”. Women’s unpaid labor, lower waged labor, sex labor, and horrific working conditions have defined much of women's work for centuries. Here are the stories of women who took on institutional discrimination for better wages, better access and better working conditions.
The films are organized by the decade the film begins in (as opposed to the decade the film was made) starting in the 1900s until present day. Some films span multiple decades, and we will upgrade these time designations as the website evolves.
