LAST FRIDAY FILM

Our “Last Friday” Film is WomenDo’s virtual screening series. On the last Friday of each month, we spotlight one film we’re excited about, bringing our community together for a collective watch party. This gives us a chance to connect and share in our love of these films.

THE PARENT TRAP
Nancy Meyers

November 24th, 2022

Sharon McKendrick and Susan Evers are identical twins separated during infancy with no knowledge of the other. Sharon grew up with their mother, Maggie, and Susan was raised by their father, Mitch. After 14 years, the duo accidentally reunites at a summer camp, discovering that their estrangement is the product of their parents’ divorce, and ultimately become best friends. They decide to switch places and lives: for the first time, Sharon will get to know her father and Susan will form a relationship with her mother. In the process, they plan to get their parents back together again.

Nancy Meyers’ directorial debut is an update of the original 1961 film, and launched her prolific directorial career. Her subsequent films, which include What Women Want, Something’s Gotta Give, and It’s Complicated, have continued to pull back the curtain on the female experience through heartwarming, sophisticated comedy. Also known for her critically successful work as a writer and producer on projects like Private Benjamin, Father of the Bride, Baby Boom, and The Holiday, Meyers has been awarded countless accolades for her groundbreaking work in television and film, including Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations, and has earned a reputation as one of the most influential women filmmakers in the romantic-comedy genre, and in Hollywood.
