How White Feminism Threw Its Black Counterpart Under the Bus

In a slight twist, this month has begun with our interview instead of our playlist. Why? We were struck by Joan Morgan’s review of Kyla Schuller’s recent book The Trouble with White Women: A Counter-History of Feminism, which gave way to immediate fascination with the book itself. A complex counter-history as its own title purports, the book deconstructs conventionally upheld accounts of American feminism. Digging below the surface, the book not only reveals the social and cultural prioritization of white feminism and its associated white feminist icons, but even further seeks to prove how white feminism has continually violated BIPOC and themWomen. The sharply written book unveils a lengthy history of work done on the part of feminists of color.
