WORKING GIRLS
Lizzie Borden
September 22nd, 2022
Lizzie Borden’s 1987 feature Working Girls depicts one day in the life of a prostitute working at a Manhattan brothel. Through her slice-of-life structure and tone steeped in realism, Borden portrays sex work as a routine, daily grind, desensationalizing it by presenting it as “just another job”. In showing sex work through this lens, she is able to define the nuances of the trade, focusing on her characters’ everyday office dynamics with their coworkers and clientele.
For the last Friday of September, please join us in watching Working Girls.
